Mac fans have been waiting for Apple to revamp the MacBook Pro range, and now the new line is here
Are you glad to hear the new MacBooks are here? Apple’s finally upgraded its entire lineup of laptops, including the Macbook Pro and Air. The new machines feature the Apple M1 chip that was unveiled in the new 2020 iPad Air. The new chip is a big step up from any previous Apple-made processors, but it also introduces some compatibility issues with older apps.
Apple says it plans to release more laptops this year than in 2019 so there will likely be other changes on their way as well. If you’re looking for what’s coming next from Apple then check out our guide to all upcoming MacBooks 2020 here.
The top-end models come with a choice of Apple’s new M1 chip and the newer M2 chip to give more power and performance
When you’re purchasing a top-end MacBook, you have the option to choose the M1 chip or the newer M2 chip. The M2 is more powerful than the M1 and it’ll help with heavy multitasking and graphically intensive tasks such as gaming and video editing. The only downside is that you’ll pay $100 more for this chip. So if your main goal is general web browsing, word processing, etc., then choosing the cheaper model with the M1 chip will work just fine.
With a powerful six-core processor, 8 graphics core GPU and 16GB memory, this is the most powerful of all the Macs, but it’s also the most expensive
If you’re a pro and you want the fastest, most powerful Mac laptop available, there’s only one model that will do: the MacBook Pro 16-inch. With its six-core processor, eight graphics core GPU, and 16GB memory (configurable up to 64GB), it’s also the most expensive Mac laptop going. It can be configured with up to 2TB of SSD storage.
Is it worth the investment? If money is no object and power is all that matters, then yes. This is by far the most powerful option Apple offers right now in a laptop form factor.
These are available in two sizes: 11 inches and 13 inches, so you can choose which suits you best
You can choose between two sizes: a 13-inch MacBook Air, or an 11-inch MacBook Air. The 11-inch model is cheaper and weighs less, but the 13-inch version is more powerful and has a bigger battery. The obvious drawback of the larger 16:10 ratio screen is that it’s heavier, but if you can live with that then it’s probably worth going bigger.
If you want more storage space, you can add up to 2 terabytes on top of that
If you need a lot of storage space, then the MacBook Pro is the way to go. The base model comes with 256 GB, but you can upgrade that to 512 GB or 1 terabyte. If you want more storage space, you can add up to 2 terabytes on top of that. That’s a lot of storage! You’ll have plenty of room for photos and videos. You could store several movies and TV shows. You could save thousands of songs. You would be able to store tons of games and programs too!
If you don’t need quite so much power and performance, then there are other options available – including the new MacBook Air
If you don’t need quite so much power and performance, then there are other options available – including the new MacBook Air. The M1-powered machine has been updated to offer a 16-core Neural Engine and an 8-core GPU, which should be sufficient for most people. It also has up to 512GB of storage, touchscreen functionality and up to 20 hours of battery life.
It’s not as powerful as the MacBook Pro M1, but it will save you money (and is only slightly slower).
This is the cheapest MacBook of all, but it still has Apple’s M1 chip, giving it plenty of performance
Well, you’re in luck: Apple hasn’t ditched the MacBook Air for the MacBook, and it’s still the cheapest Mac laptop you can buy. At $999 / £999 / AU$1,599, this is a good purchase if you have a tight budget but want one of Apple’s new M1 laptops.
The MacBook Air (M1, 2020) features an 8-core CPU and 8-core GPU, making it much more powerful than its predecessor. The only real downside to this model is that there are only two storage options – 256GB and 512GB – which isn’t much by today’s standards. If you already have a hard drive or NAS setup at home and mostly use cloud services like iCloud or Dropbox to store your files anyway, then the MacBook Air could be just what you need.
Of course, if you want to do some more intensive tasks like video editing or gaming on your Mac laptop then maybe look elsewhere on our list – there are better options for those users out there. But for writing work emails on during the day and watching movies at night without breaking the bank, it doesn’t get much better than this machine from Apple…
It comes with an 8 core GPU and either 256GB or 512GB storage space as standard
The 2.8GHz model comes in silver and space grey, with 256GB of storage as standard. The cheapest configuration is the $1,799 2.3GHz model in silver, which comes with 256GB of internal storage as standard (you can add more later). It’s a good option if you need an Apple laptop now and need to save money where you can.
If you have some extra cash, there’s a much more capable 2.9GHz version for $2,199 (with 512GB of storage) or $2,399 for two terabytes of SSD storage space (which we recommend for most people).
Conclusion: There are some good choices if you’re thinking about buying an Apple laptop
It’s an age-old adage that “you get what you pay for,” and it is true of most things—including laptops. The best laptop in the world isn’t free, so it’s important to set a budget when you’re shopping for Apple laptops.
By setting a budget, you can make sure that you don’t waste time looking at options that are out of your price range. This way, you won’t be tempted to buy something expensive just because it has more features than the cheaper models. By knowing how much money you want to spend before searching for your laptop, you’ll avoid the disappointment of finding a model that looks perfect but costs too much for your budget.
You should choose the best model that suits your budget, even if it means compromising on some features like storage or RAM capacity. Keep in mind that there will always be tradeoffs between different models so don’t worry about getting everything perfectly!
