Swiftype launched a new product today to help businesses search through documents, images, PDFs and other files across different cloud storage products
Swiftype Search, which is available today, allows businesses to search across Dropbox, Google Drive, and Microsoft Office 365. The company plans to add other storage providers to the product in the future.
“We’re really excited about this launch because it addresses a problem that we see with our customers over and over again: how do you find what you’re looking for when it’s not just one piece of content but a mix of different formats — documents, images, PDFs — spread across different cloud apps?” Swiftype CEO Quinn Slack said. “Now that more and more companies are adopting cloud-based tools for their workflows and storing data in multiple places instead of in one central location, there is an increasing need for innovative solutions to help them search through all types of content from all applications at once. We think that Swiftype Search will be a great solution for those companies because it is so easy to set up and use.”
Companies will be able to connect Swiftype with these cloud services using OAuth or by manually entering their credentials as well as setting up scheduled imports or triggering on-demand crawls through an API endpoint or webhooks.
Swiftype is going up against other companies like Coveo and Lucidworks, which are also trying to make enterprise search easier
Swiftype is also up against other companies like Coveo and Lucidworks, which are also trying to make enterprise search easier.
Swiftype is not just about search, however. The company is also bringing in natural language processing (NLP) technology to help its users better understand what they’re searching for — something that artificial intelligence has gotten really good at over the years. You can then use this information to customize your search results or have them auto-populate with relevant options as you type.

While Swiftype Search can be used independently of other Swiftype products, the company sees the new product as a complement to its original Swiftype Site Search. Just as Swiftype Site Search helped power search on websites, the company says it sees Swiftype Search powering search across a wide variety of files and documents.
Swiftype Search is not a replacement for the company’s existing products. Instead, it gives users an easy way to index additional content, like documents in Dropbox or Office 365. While some enterprises may use both products together, others will be able to get by with just one or another.
Today, Swiftype offers full-text search with support for boolean queries, a REST API and webhooks for indexing, regex matching and stemming
The service enables companies to seamlessly search across applications that include Box, Dropbox, Google G Suite, Microsoft Office 365 and more. Today, Swiftype offers full-text search with support for boolean queries, a REST API and webhooks for indexing, regex matching and stemming. The company also supports multiple languages like English, Chinese (both simplified and traditional), French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean and Spanish. This makes it easy to build intelligent search into any application.
Get all of your file search needs handled in one product
Many of you are already using Swiftype to search across your corporate website, product documentation and more, but what about all the data that’s stored in various cloud storage services like Dropbox and Google Drive?
Cloud File Search is a new product from Swiftype that can be used independently of other Swiftype products or in tandem with them. Cloud File Search allows you to easily index files from multiple sources and make it possible for users to search across them. With Cloud File Search, enterprises can add full-text search across Dropbox, Office 365, Box, SharePoint and G Suite.
While a lot of companies use tools like Dropbox/Box for file collaboration and storage, they still lack the ability to easily search for content within these files. We wanted to make it easy for companies to use their existing cloud storage providers while also adding an important missing piece: powerful full-text search capabilities.
Conclusion
Cloud File Search solves a problem that many companies are facing today. If you’re currently using cloud storage providers like Dropbox and Google Drive, you may have noticed that there’s not an easy way to search across them from one central interface. Cloud File Search allows a company to create an in-house search solution while also using their existing cloud storage services, rather than switching to a new provider that has traditional full text search.
